KERALA INTRO
|
|
|
Kerala,
now oft referred to as God's own country, is 590km
long land strip along India's south western coast
perched between the hills on one side and blue
sea on the other…thus offering its visitors best
of hills, beaches, forests, rivers and back waters
within its 38863 square kilo
meter area. Apart from this varied display of
geography, what distinguishes Kerala from rest
of India is its very high levels of social and
educational development (including 100% literacy
rate and English is understood across the state),
at par with developed countries of the world (see
stats below)
For the traveler. Endless beaches and enchanting
backwaters are what attracted global travelers
to Kerala and its quaint countryside charm had
them hooked. For the tourist willing to spend
time and explore, Kerala has more to offer - its
equatorial forests are rich in flora and fauna,
its hill stations are resplendent with tea-plantations
and carry a curious colonial touch still, its
villages teem with farming activity, the temples,
churches and mosques are hubs of cultural activities
and also offer interesting study of architecture,
its ancient natural health therapies (called ayurveda)
offer permanent cure to various chronic illnesses…the
list can go on. But most importantly, what probably
makes travelers want to return is it hospitable
and ever smiling people.

When to
visit. Kerala has something to offer through out
the year…be it the regional festival season that
begins mid-august to September and extends to
March as temple festivals starts rolling in or
during June to August when the monsoons come calling
and the entire state takes on an additional garb
of green with rains to sing lullaby almost every
night. However, climate tends to be hot and humid
from March to mid-may and it is advisable to spend
this period in one of the several hill stations.
By popular tourist calendar, September to January
is often the peak season with hotel bookings sold
out in end-December, thanks to the holiday season
in West. |
